PhD Research Fellowship Opportunity at University of Bergen
The Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion at the University of Bergen is inviting applications for a PhD Research Fellowship in Archaeology, commencing in August 2025.
The fellowship will focus on the materiality of Christianity and its physical remains within the Norwegian territory, but with the possibility for studying this in a larger comparative context. This is fantastic opportunity for an archaeologist who would like to develop a project related to one or more of the following topics:
- The Christianization of Norway and how this has manifested itself and affected landscape and society.
- The material remains of churches/monasteries/hospitals and their significance in society, both locally and regionally (buildings, building materials and other physical traces such as burials, documents etc.).
- Religiosity and everyday life in the Middle Ages reflected through a wide range of different types of source materials.
