Forthcoming Events
We have been asked to publicise a number of forthcoming (non-SMA) events, so here goes…
1. A lecture entitled Souvenirs of the Sepulchre: Devotion to an Empty Tomb at the Time of the First Crusade will be presented by Dr William Purkis (University of Birmingham) at the Museum of the Order of St John in London at 7pm on March 23rd, 2016. It will be preceded, from 5:30pm, by an opportunity for visitors to drop in to the Museum galleries any time for a chance to get up close to one of the 17th-century models of the Holy Sepulchre. The event is free, but places should be reserved via this link.
2. A conference entitled Anglo-Saxon Rendlesham: A roayl centre of the East Anglian Kingdom will be held in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, 24th September 2016.
3. The 2016 Annual Deerhurst Lecture will celebrate the millennium of the peace-meeting held on an island in the River Severn at Deerhurst in the autumn of 1016 between King Edmund Ironside and King Cnut. The lecture will take place at 7.30 pm on Saturday 24th September 2016 in St Mary’s Church, Deerhurst and will be given by Matthew Townend (University of York) on the subject of ‘The Road to Deerhurst: 1016 in English and Norse Sources‘. Tickets at the door, price £5 (students £3).
